Chronology of cameras Hasselblad
The Svea detective cameras, made by Hugo Svensson & Co., were manufactured from 1893 to the late 1920s. Until 1902, they were distributed exclusively by F.W. Hasselblad and their related companies (G.&H. Hasselblad – Gothenburg, Sven Scholander – Stockholm, Peter Knudsen – Copenhagen). The Svea was inspired by Murer’s Express cameras but were clearly of higher quality and performance. They were made for formats 9 x 12 and 12 x 16.5 and for the stereoscopic format 8.25 x 17 cm. With such a long life span, the camera suffered several improvements and configurations, but it could also be ordered with custom features.
Given the front configuration, this model is from the early period (between 1894-1900). It corresponds to model 3c, which has the combined features of 9 x 12 format, front without movements, and Wray Rapid Rectilinear 5.5’’ lens. The camera is covered in leather. The shutter is a Svensson rotative with variable instantaneous speed (nominal 1-4) plus time exposures. A rotative plate with Hasselblad's name covers the lens, and focus is made by pulling the central rod. The viewfinders have a sliding cover and each has a bubble leveler.
This camera has the distributor's nameplate (G.&H. Hasselblad) and the main house Hasselblad logo on the back.
